What we set out to do

Our first rocket. We wanted to find out whether a group of students could take a rocket from a blank page to the pad, motor included.

What happened

The motor exploded at ignition and destroyed the flight computer. No telemetry was received and no data survived.

Our review traced it to the motor's cavity, which wasn't properly formed, so chamber pressure rose beyond what the casing could hold.

What we changed next

For our second rocket we bought a commercial motor, so we could concentrate on the rest of the rocket.

M001's motor used potassium dichromate. We've discontinued it: it's a toxic, carcinogenic hexavalent-chromium compound.

Written from the team's memory in September 2026. No logs, code or data from this mission survive.
